AECOM and WSP talks fall apart

Talks of WSP Global acquiring rival engineering firm AECOM appear to have fallen apart after the two parties failed to meet a deadline last week for agreeing to various terms, said a source close to the situation and a source familiar with the situation.

Once travel restrictions were put in place in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus, executives had little choice other than to put the talks on ice.

“We couldn’t get people in the room,” the source close to the matter said, applying a 90% probability that the merger will not happen.

AECOM and WSP did not return calls seeking comment.

News of the potential tie-up first broke on 13 January when the financial press reported that WSP had approached AECOM executives about a deal.
