Blackstone Infrastructure Partners has appointed Brookfield’s Jonathan Kelly as its senior managing director and head of European Infrastructure.

Blackstone Infrastructure Partners (BIP) has appointed Brookfield’s Jonathan Kelly as senior managing director and head of European Infrastructure, SparkSpread has learned.

Kelly was managing partner and head of Europe for Brookfield Infrastructure and global chief investment officer for utilities and data infrastructure.

He spent over 12 years at Brookfield across its London, Sydney and Toronto offices.

Kelly’s new role at Blackstone’s London office will see him responsible for originating and structuring infrastructure investments for the US asset manager, which has historically invested USD 46bn in infrastructure-related projects.

In 2017, Blackstone launched its inaugural infrastructure fund, BIP, which is targeting up to USD 20bn of PPP, core and core plus infrastructure assets, with matching commitments from third party investors.

While at least 70% of the fund is allocated for equity investments of USD 1bn or more North America, a minority of the fund can be deployed in other geographies.

BIP announced the final close of its inaugural fundraising phase in 2019 with total commitments of USD 14bn.
