Colombian National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) plans to launch the tender for the USD 1.1bn Troncal del Magdalena in the second half of 2020, according to a 27 November press release.
ANI recently completed the feasibility studies for the project, carried out by the Sociedad Colombiana de Ingenieros (SCI).
The 576km Troncal del Magdalena will connect Puerto Salgar, in the Cundinamarca department, to San Roque, located in the Cesar region.
Even if the procurement agency will launch a single tender, the project will include two different concession contracts. One for the COP 1.96trn (USD 615m) Puerto Salgar-Barrancabermeja section, and one for the COP 1.63trn (USD 512m) Barrancabermeja-San Roque highway section.
Splitting the asset into two concessions is a favorable measure given past experiences in Argentina and Mexico, SCI said.
