Energy Outlook: Germany draws the backbone for a new hydrogen market

Germany wants to be a world leader in green hydrogen, after launching a EUR 9bn strategy in June. But the plan relies on importing European generation until more offshore wind comes online. Questions are also being asked about the rules for local transmission system operators, reports David Craik

June saw the launch of the German federal government’s National Hydrogen Strategy. It identified green hydrogen – produced by wind and solar via electrolysis – as playing a key role in the energy transition and decarbonisation of transport, industries such as steel making, as well as energy storage.Read More
