Fiera Infrastructure has hired Brooks Kaufman, a former investment director at IFM Investors, as a managing director leading the firm’s New York office, according to an 8 April press release.
Kaufman, who joined the Toronto-based firm on 1 April, will lead the origination and execution of new investments for the New York office, which opened at the beginning of the month. Additionally, he will work on portfolio and asset management and fundraising.
“Brooks will work across the mid-market segment of the infrastructure industry,” Fiera Infrastructure President Alina Osorio said in an email. “As he is based in New York, his primary focus is on opportunities in the US in telecommunications, energy, transportation and utilities.”
Kaufman had worked for IFM Investors since 2010 before joining Fiera. Before IFM, he spent stints at renewable energy firm Soltage, Banc of America Securities, Fieldstone Private Capital, Mirant, and JP Morgan.
New York is Fiera’s third office location along with Toronto and London. The company plans to build an investment team of roughly four people in New York by the end of the year, a Fiera spokesperson said in an email.
“The opening of the US office will enable us to tap into more opportunities in the US market on the private capital side,” Osorio said. “As our firm continues to grow, we are adding to our team in strategic geographies.”
Fiera Infrastructure was launched in 2016 as a joint venture between Montreal-based Fiera Capital and Toronto-based Aquila Infrastructure Management. Fiera Infrastructure has roughly CAD 1.6bn (USD 1.2bn) in assets under management across 27 infrastructure assets, focusing on core and core-plus mid-market assets.
IFM declined comment on the move.
