Twenty companies have purchased the tender documents for the UF 19.2m (USD 796m) second tender of the Ruta 5 Talca – Chillán toll road, according to a document published by Chile’s Ministry of Public Works.
The group includes eight Spanish developers, as well as three Chinese companies, China Harbour Engineering, China Communications Construction Company and China Railway Construction Company.
Intervial currently holds the concession for the road, which is set to expire in May 2020, and also purchased the bidding documents for the second tender. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Colombian infrastructure firm Interconexión Eléctrica.
Bids are due in May 2020 and economic offers will be opened the following month.
The works for the second tender include improvements to the existing 193km (119.9 miles) of highway, as well as an expansion from two to three lanes in the areas around the cities of Talca and Chillán and the construction of a 54km bypass to Talca.
