BBVA named former BNP Paribas financier Javier Fidalgo as global head of advisory services within the bank’s project finance practice.

Inframation understands that Fidalgo joined the BBVA global project finance team in Madrid in June to fill the recently-created position. He will report to Ángel Arévalo, global head of project finance at BBVA.

Fidalgo worked at BNP as director with a focus on power, infrastructure and project finance activity in Latin America. He reported to Jean-Valery Patin, managing director and head of project finance Latin America, who is based at the French bank’s New York City office.

BBVA announced in October that it planned to boost its advisory business and name new managers.

The Spanish bank is supporting Enel in the sale of renewable assets worth USD 1.35bn in Mexico. In Colombia, it is the financial advisor for the SPV behind the Bucaramanga-Barrancabermeja-Yondó highway raising an approximately COP 1.8trn (USD 611m) non-recourse loan to fund road construction.
