Latin America: Hospital PPP tenders for Bogotá attract international interest

Bogotá plans to issue pre-tender documents in April for five hospital PPPs requiring a total investment of COP 1.7trn (USD 596.7m), Inframation has learned.

The city government said 240 companies from 11 countries had expressed interest in the projects to build, operate and maintain the hospitals, according to an official statement about Bogotá’s International Public-Private Partnerships Health Forum, which took place between 19 February and 22 February.

The 20-year contracts call for the addition of a combined 1,272 beds.

Project background
The procurement aims to improve the healthcare system and fix the deficit in hospital services and beds. International standards recommend 3.5 beds per 1,000 people, while Bogotá has only 1.7 beds per 1,000 people.

UK-based Currie & Brown is technical advisor, while local law firm Durán & Osorio Abogados is legal advisor to the city government.
