John Laing has hired Sven Kottwitz as investment director, Inframation has learned.

Kottwitz was a senior investment director at Meridiam’s New York team for six years and prior to this worked for Meridiam in Paris and HSBC in London and Johannesburg.

John Laing had a very strong year in 2017 in the US market and Kottwitz will be taking a leading role in its US P3 activities, said Anthony Phillips, Regional Managing Director North America at John Laing. Phillips said that Kottwitz brings a wealth of experience to the P3 team, having played a lead role on large-scale US P3 transportation and airport projects including the LaGuardia terminal project and the I-66. Kottwitz also brings transit and water experience both within the US and from Europe.

John Laing deployed GBP 383m in 2017 well ahead of its original guidance, of which GBP 228m was invested in the US market according to the firm’s 8 March earnings call.  According to Inframation Deals, the firm closed three deals in the US in 2017:  the I-66 (USD 150m), the Rocksprings 149MW Wind Farm Acquisition and the Buckthorn 100MW Wind Project. The firm is preferred bidder on the Massachusetts Automated Fare Collection System P3 and is currently shortlisted on eight P3 projects in the US and Canada, added Phillips.

To fund further growth, John Laing has recently launched a GBP 210m rights issue
