Plenary hires property infrastructure associate director

Melbourne-based Plenary Group has appointed Stephen So as an associate director of origination to go after infrastructure deals with a strong property element.

So was previously a director at IDA Property Group and, before that, in KPMG’s real estate advisory team.

“Stephen will support and drive the development of the ever-increasing property opportunities we are seeing associated with infrastructure procurement and delivery,” Paul Crowe, Plenary’s head of origination, said in an emailed statement.

“As Australia’s metropolitan and regional areas continue to grow, governments are increasingly looking to partner with industry to develop the infrastructure that our growing communities need.”

Social housing, university accommodation and above station developments tied to a host of new rail lines being built and planned across the country are some areas where there is an increasing number of property investment opportunities and risks tied to infrastructure.

Plenary has already bid on projects in all those areas, but it sees the need to increase its expertise in property with many more similar infrastructure projects ahead.

“We are excited about the pipeline of infrastructure and integrated property projects arising as governments around the country map out their long-term approaches to population growth,” Crowe added.
